<i><u>Press Here is a unique and magical interactive book for therapy</u></i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SeyZi3rM08g/WNqXiDbIr_I/AAAAAAAAPEs/AIdCHC6n7LMu-LrBDI7eI05XRdye5_-EACLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2BReview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SeyZi3rM08g/WNqXiDbIr_I/AAAAAAAAPEs/AIdCHC6n7LMu-LrBDI7eI05XRdye5_-EACLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2BReview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B1.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
My caseload is 90% preschoolers (3-5 years old), and 90% of them have IEP goals addressing following directions and basic concepts. <a href="https://smile.amazon.com/Press-Here-Herve-Tullet/dp/0811879542/ref=la_B00J1RIV2C_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1490745513&sr=1-1" target="_blank">This book by Herve Tullet</a> has been a great resource to have in my toolbox for addressing both of these goals.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NMin4MkVcrM/WNqXohQS0aI/AAAAAAAAPEw/UrE7A26sKZAwdJauF1Dne_fn-lhGRKvkQCLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NMin4MkVcrM/WNqXohQS0aI/AAAAAAAAPEw/UrE7A26sKZAwdJauF1Dne_fn-lhGRKvkQCLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
It starts out with one yellow dot on the page, with the instructions to "press here". And when they do (and turn the page), they see that their pressing magically changed the dot!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s64ev39IHno/WNrUYeGImyI/AAAAAAAAPFI/LwfxCXZz9vMELBHPkPurBqsYCoxPRM8FQCLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s64ev39IHno/WNrUYeGImyI/AAAAAAAAPFI/LwfxCXZz9vMELBHPkPurBqsYCoxPRM8FQCLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" width="291" /></a></div>
<br />
As they progress through the book, following the directions causes more and more changes with the dots.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-86_p32a3d18/WNrUdP_S1LI/AAAAAAAAPFM/wK7PuJ1hCM8XTzbWKEUQoPFxn4JLYtCPACLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-86_p32a3d18/WNrUdP_S1LI/AAAAAAAAPFM/wK7PuJ1hCM8XTzbWKEUQoPFxn4JLYtCPACLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8RWfc4-07LU/WNrUejo3IzI/AAAAAAAAPFQ/vekOsdI-zQYmycMNkmbf0jB253xY9w7AwCLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8RWfc4-07LU/WNrUejo3IzI/AAAAAAAAPFQ/vekOsdI-zQYmycMNkmbf0jB253xY9w7AwCLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2Breview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B4.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
Those dots get pretty excited and chaotic before the book ends :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M1YIpgSf3lU/WNrW2dj0XLI/AAAAAAAAPFk/WT6P_Qt80qMb1uWYQa_bKJEol-lavptBwCLcB/s1600/Press%2BHere%2BReview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M1YIpgSf3lU/WNrW2dj0XLI/AAAAAAAAPFk/WT6P_Qt80qMb1uWYQa_bKJEol-lavptBwCLcB/s320/Press%2BHere%2BReview%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Kid think this is the most magical book! And I love the language opportunities. We practiced following one- and two-step directions, basic concepts including <i>left, right, middle, all, just/only</i>, sizes, patterns, colors, counting, and also cause/effect. Pretty great to have this all wrapped into one book!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--KNwM4VRU-s/WNrZ1giPbOI/AAAAAAAAPF8/z9puXoLzB_waeXWMNgOKfNL1aM8ZJKa7QCLcB/s1600/following%2Bdirections%2Bwith%2Bcircles%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--KNwM4VRU-s/WNrZ1giPbOI/AAAAAAAAPF8/z9puXoLzB_waeXWMNgOKfNL1aM8ZJKa7QCLcB/s320/following%2Bdirections%2Bwith%2Bcircles%2B1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then we did some follow-up activities with some quick dots I cut out of construction paper. We had big, medium, and small dots and we practiced more of those basic concepts, following directions, and prepositions around the therapy room.<br />
<br />

Note: There are also other similar books including <i>Mix it Up</i> and <i>Let's Play!</i> by this same author. I also recommend <i>Tap the Magic Tree</i> and <i>Touch the Brightest Star</i> both by <a href="https://smile.amazon.com/Christie-Matheson/e/B00MB57NO8/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1490745662&sr=8-1" target="_blank">Christie Matheson</a>.Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12701596998407286546noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1585143104042028745.post-19047370140327616802017-03-26T11:00:00.000-05:002017-03-27T12:51:30.063-05:00Ideas as Fresh as Springtime {The Frenzied SLPs}Spring has sprung! Thank the Lord!!! Even if it's still below freezing or you have snow on the ground, it's time to brighten things up inside. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> have your back and we're sharing fresh ideas for spring therapy. Here are my top five 🌼<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WtGKNnPNaqY/WNcdqP2cPmI/AAAAAAAAO8E/Vr65icZtQ0UBgAZIz0asWX3JL6KcT75UQCLcB/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BFresh%2BSpring%2BTherapy%2BIdeas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WtGKNnPNaqY/WNcdqP2cPmI/AAAAAAAAO8E/Vr65icZtQ0UBgAZIz0asWX3JL6KcT75UQCLcB/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BFresh%2BSpring%2BTherapy%2BIdeas.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: orange;">1) Bring animals into the therapy room (if you're that ambitious!)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xDYOhgMruaA/WNcdEsIBpsI/AAAAAAAAO78/AcDye3kD6VABvcn0YUTSDXFNWBPQy1wbACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B8.44.15%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xDYOhgMruaA/WNcdEsIBpsI/AAAAAAAAO78/AcDye3kD6VABvcn0YUTSDXFNWBPQy1wbACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B8.44.15%2BPM.png" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">#chicksman</span></div>
<br />
A few years ago I shared a classroom with the special ed teacher. Our school was in a small rural community, but not many kids actually lived on farms or had exposure to animals other than dog/cat/fish/gerbil pets. The SpEd teacher decided to bring a few baby chicks into our room for a few weeks in the spring and the kids were able to interact with them and watch them grow. They were so, so excited and it provided so many language and vocabulary opportunities! We were able to talk about what makes a good pet, make observations about how they grew (chicks change very rapidly!), compared and contrasted animals that give birth to live babies vs. eggs, and what makes a good pet. There's even research backing up the benefit of <a href="https://www.disabilityscoop.com/2015/01/05/pets-boost-autism/19938/" target="_blank">pets boosting social skills in kids with autism</a>. I've also heard of therapists bringing in therapy dogs (swoon!). Are any of you doing this?<br />
<br />
<span style="color: orange;">2) Sensory bins or water play</span><br />
<br />
There are so many fun ideas for sensory bins out there! I started using them with my students a couple months ago and they have always been a hit. The participation and expressive language explode out of my students when these are on the table. Here are some ideas for spring bins that are inspiring me:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="color: orange;">3) DIY matching foam eggs</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fwr80cLmbCY/WNcyEXbx32I/AAAAAAAAO9E/CrQHCRz2648moEonaUnFO_yJs6qFoDrOwCLcB/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BEaster%2BEgg%2BMatching%2BActivities%2BCover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fwr80cLmbCY/WNcyEXbx32I/AAAAAAAAO9E/CrQHCRz2648moEonaUnFO_yJs6qFoDrOwCLcB/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BEaster%2BEgg%2BMatching%2BActivities%2BCover.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A few years ago I found <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2014/04/easter-egg-matchups.html" target="_blank">these foam eggs</a> in the Target Dollar Aisle (♥) and made a pocket out of packing tape so I could switch out the pictures on the egg halves for different students. It was fun and I'll be busting this out again this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVB5NJ-JMjY/WNcyTv5wnvI/AAAAAAAAO9I/27E7Ovg05xgGLG6F6WHkxLIG6eGradiLQCLcB/s1600/opposite%2Beggs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVB5NJ-JMjY/WNcyTv5wnvI/AAAAAAAAO9I/27E7Ovg05xgGLG6F6WHkxLIG6eGradiLQCLcB/s320/opposite%2Beggs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<span style="color: orange;">4) Spring-themed picture books</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J73e5VWiobk/WNc8KLnyq_I/AAAAAAAAO9Y/iVe527KKqb4BLA2LuFcKF1YEKmGnU8LXACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B10.48.23%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J73e5VWiobk/WNc8KLnyq_I/AAAAAAAAO9Y/iVe527KKqb4BLA2LuFcKF1YEKmGnU8LXACLcB/s200/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B10.48.23%2BPM.png" width="165" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K6MZKRkKbrw/WNc8NIXM-dI/AAAAAAAAO9c/vJgr6m5PFKAGA5ji6ZWPNHJ6Gr3PebGPgCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B10.46.30%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="203" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K6MZKRkKbrw/WNc8NIXM-dI/AAAAAAAAO9c/vJgr6m5PFKAGA5ji6ZWPNHJ6Gr3PebGPgCLcB/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-03-25%2Bat%2B10.46.30%2BPM.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There are too many good picture books out to possibly get to them all, but if you're looking for some new ideas, I really suggest <a href="https://www.amazon.com/When-Spring-Comes-Kevin-Henkes/dp/0062331396/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490500090&sr=8-1&keywords=when+spring+comes" target="_blank">When Spring Comes</a> by Kevin Henkes and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Hatch-Katie-Cox/dp/1848796617" target="_blank">Hatch</a> by Katie Cox. When Spring Comes was just released in 2016, so I don't think many people have heard of it, but it's an informative book about waiting for spring to come and it has beautiful illustrations. Hatch is all about animals that hatch from eggs. It gives clues to the animals on one side, and then kids can guess and open the egg to see if they're correct.<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: orange;">5) New activity packets</span><br />
<br />
Finally, if you're looking to update your material supply, might I suggest some of the spring activities in my Teachers Pay Teachers shop:<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><u><a href="http://bit.ly/2cJjE3k" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> have a plethora of ideas for establishing baselines and progress monitoring.</u></i></div>
<br />
Data. It's a necessary evil in our field. It can tell us so much useful information and really guide therapy decisions, but it can also be such a dizzying headache to collect and analyze frequently. Some jobs I've had required progress monitoring a certain number of times each month, and for others I've been on my own to monitor as needed. Either way, it can be a messy and overwhelming process if you're not organized.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ExJUVikVSf0/V9HBl1909HI/AAAAAAAALVE/6niw9brd2AA_n_3jN3n7Bj7Q1kbAi0CQwCLcB/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ExJUVikVSf0/V9HBl1909HI/AAAAAAAALVE/6niw9brd2AA_n_3jN3n7Bj7Q1kbAi0CQwCLcB/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
Many SLPs have 50+ students on their caseloads and progress monitoring needs to be quick and efficient. That's why I tend to use data from regular therapy activities to collect my progress monitoring data. Since I am writing all those lines and circles every session anyway, I just look back at my data from a certain time frame and average it all out when it comes time to write progress reports. You can <a href="http://bit.ly/2c5bPkz" target="_blank">download the data sheet I use for FREE here</a>.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: red;">Bonus quick tip:</span></b> collect data in groups of 10 or 20 in order to make mental calculation of percentages quick and easy.<br />
<br />
I frequently use my Ready, Set, Communicate booklets for quick data check-ins. Each page contains 10 trials making data collection quick and effortless.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x2JlOltasqY/V9G8Z5vCsQI/AAAAAAAALUg/mwFM4EREYs8yE0wCeUjQUYex0Bew2TNyACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-09-08%2Bat%2B9.56.04%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x2JlOltasqY/V9G8Z5vCsQI/AAAAAAAALUg/mwFM4EREYs8yE0wCeUjQUYex0Bew2TNyACLcB/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-09-08%2Bat%2B9.56.04%2BAM.png" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
What about those students who have goals with multiple objectives? I'm talking multiple speech sound errors, including various story grammar elements in a story retell task, or using language functionally in different ways such as asking/answering questions and using greetings appropriately.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wxWi17Y4ops/V9HDuG4KuHI/AAAAAAAALVQ/dNHgZEcyLworr24gX8uetPFDDFUoKieogCLcB/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wxWi17Y4ops/V9HDuG4KuHI/AAAAAAAALVQ/dNHgZEcyLworr24gX8uetPFDDFUoKieogCLcB/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Tracking data on so many different aspects of communication can get messy. None of us have the time to constantly round up several data sheets or log notes for every student every time we update their progress. In those cases, I prefer to use rubrics to track their progress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X0wdIn2OGGA/V9HDDzupapI/AAAAAAAALVM/Kn7JQvolyE8-GWZFWoqA-Mrf6wbPDPo2QCLcB/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X0wdIn2OGGA/V9HDDzupapI/AAAAAAAALVM/Kn7JQvolyE8-GWZFWoqA-Mrf6wbPDPo2QCLcB/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BData%2BCollection%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Rubrics are an efficient way to track and score goals which contain many components, and also measure student progress over time.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;"><b>Create your own rubrics in three easy steps:</b></span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 0.5in; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">1)<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-stretch: normal;"> </span>Determine the elements of your goal that need to be measured. This might be something like the steps to mastering a speech sound in conversation, or your short-term objectives.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 0.5in; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">2)<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-stretch: normal;"> </span>Set performance levels and assign points to each level. I like to set 3-5 criterion levels. Generally speaking, they range from "not yet demonstrating" to "proficient".</span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 0.5in; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: small;">3)<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-stretch: normal;"> </span>Include descriptions/examples in your rubric cells of what would qualify for that score rating. Keep it simple! </span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">Your criterion must be clear and easy for others to interpret. If your student moves away and a new SLP inherits his goal/rubric, you want them to be able to continue using it with the same reliability.</span></div>

<i><u>3 tips to survive the end of the school year</u></i></div>
<br />
Hello? Is anyone still here? Many apologies for the extended absence, but I've cleared away the cobwebs and am ready to get back to regular posting. By the way, I have a good excuse for taking some time off: <b>I'm pregnant and expecting my first child at the beginning of August! Yay!</b> Thankfully, everything has been going pretty smoothly so far, so I've just been enjoying this time away from the blog with researching and preparing for how things are going to change in the next year. That, plus everything REALLY amped up at work and we have been BUSY!<br />
<br />
Most school-based SLPs will be winding down the year within the next month or so, and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> would like to help make the downhill slide to summer break go as <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2015/05/5-tips-to-end-school-year-successfully.html" target="_blank">smoothly as possible</a> for you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fAD7AgNVKa4/VzEaGNK4EKI/AAAAAAAAJ8k/YEdV9AThqqwZ1K5GuU4u7ixK8_XwPjULACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-05-09%2Bat%2B5.52.35%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fAD7AgNVKa4/VzEaGNK4EKI/AAAAAAAAJ8k/YEdV9AThqqwZ1K5GuU4u7ixK8_XwPjULACLcB/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-05-09%2Bat%2B5.52.35%2BPM.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
=====================================</div>
<br />
One of the buildings I was assigned to this year has been doing an ongoing social/emotional learning training all year, including discussing <a href="http://mindsetonline.com/whatisit/about/index.html" target="_blank">Growth Mindset</a>. These tools have not only helped me rethink the way I interact with my students, but have also popped into my heads at times when I'm facing difficulties. During the downhill slide to summer it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, but I just need to remember to replace some of my negative thoughts with more encouraging thoughts:<br />
<br />
<span style="color: magenta;">"I'll never get everything done by June 3rd!"</span><br />
<span style="color: magenta;">--> Instead, think "I can cross three items off my to-do list today."</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: orange;">"Are you kidding me, ANOTHER referral with three weeks left of school?!"</span><br />
<span style="color: orange;">--> Instead, think "What can I do to assist this student AND this teacher?"</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">"I don't want to go to work today!"</span><br />
<span style="color: blue;">--> Instead, think "I get to help my students today, and we're one more day closer to summer!"</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

Music always helps me get through any tough situation - and through the good times too! A couple years ago I shared a <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2014/05/pep-talk-for-end-of-school-year.html" target="_blank">playlist for all those end-of-year tasks</a>. When all else fails - make a list! The end of the school year comes with a million tasks to do, and using a command center to help keep those lists organized and in view really helps. You can <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Sticky-Note-Command-Center-2084652" target="_blank">download your own for free here</a>. It is always so rewarding to see those tasks being crossed off!<br />

<u><i>you can make your own window clings with two simple supplies</i></u></div>
<br />
This week we have been having fun with a Valentine craft during our speech therapy sessions - DIY window clings! All you need for this easy craft are puffy paint and ziplock bags or plastic sheet protectors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7yXv1CIfoF0/VrutXQmH2bI/AAAAAAAAHro/XSrus7Qfz8c/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7yXv1CIfoF0/VrutXQmH2bI/AAAAAAAAHro/XSrus7Qfz8c/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 1: This is not necessary, but to keep things under control I printed off heart patterns on a sheet of paper and inserted them into sheet protectors to act as a template for my students.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rZ45EvQovl0/Vrzo__koWNI/AAAAAAAAHsY/HW3dpYD8Ecg/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rZ45EvQovl0/Vrzo__koWNI/AAAAAAAAHsY/HW3dpYD8Ecg/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 2: Use the puffy paint to trace around the heart template.<br />
<br />
Step 3: You can use multiple colors to make designs and patterns. Make sure the paint isn't too thin, or it will be difficult to peel off the plastic. Also, if the paint is too thick then it takes forever to dry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gUfhwtQCr2Q/Vruthu5Fp1I/AAAAAAAAHrw/Cq6DRxllk_U/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gUfhwtQCr2Q/Vruthu5Fp1I/AAAAAAAAHrw/Cq6DRxllk_U/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 4: Let the paint dry overnight. Then you can peel the hearts off the plastic and decorate your windows!<br />
<br />
This craft was easy peasy, and many of my students told me they really were excited to use the paint. Try it today!<br />
<br />

<br />
**Thanks to my friend and colleague Kayla for the idea for this craftivity!<br />

<i><u>The Frenzied SLPs are sharing times when #SLPlovehurts</u></i></div>
<br />
Valentine's Day is next week, and with that comes talk of love. This week The Frenzied SLPs are talking about those times when love hurts. As SLPs, we work with a wide range of student abilities, and most of our kiddos have needs other than communication which are also impacting their performance in the school setting. There are times when these needs can escalate and things can turn physical. Here is just one instance I have experienced that has made an impact on me. <i>Some details have been altered to protect student confidentiality</i>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YwMqC2M6r5U/Vro1o-8VANI/AAAAAAAAHrQ/5aj2MZsHYP8/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BLove%2BHurts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YwMqC2M6r5U/Vro1o-8VANI/AAAAAAAAHrQ/5aj2MZsHYP8/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BLove%2BHurts.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: #e06666; font-size: large;">Here's what happened:</span><br />
A few years back I was working one-on-one with a second grade student whose compliance and behavior could switch from angelic to physically aggressive without warning. It was near the beginning of the school year, and I was new to this building, so it was still during those first few weeks when I was getting to know my caseload.<br />
<br />
As we walked down the hallway to my therapy room, this student seemed to be in a good mood. He asked me about what I did last night, and we chit-chatted as we walked. Once we got in my room, I started to explain what we were going to learn that day. Well, he decided that didn't fit with his plans and proceeded to walk over to my desk.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUfhwtQCr2Q/Vruthu5Fp1I/AAAAAAAAHr8/Fs55yWJlKFw/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUfhwtQCr2Q/Vruthu5Fp1I/AAAAAAAAHr8/Fs55yWJlKFw/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I attempted to lure him back to our work table, and he went for anything and everything on my desk. Task cards, papers, my laptop and cell phone - anything and everything he grabbed and threatened to break. I was shocked! This was not the sweet boy I had just walked down the hallway with!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7yXv1CIfoF0/VrutXQmH2bI/AAAAAAAAHr8/PYjda5avmTU/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7yXv1CIfoF0/VrutXQmH2bI/AAAAAAAAHr8/PYjda5avmTU/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next he bolted for the door. Luckily I was quicker and got there ahead of him and was able to close it before he got out into the hallway, but then he proceeded to swear at me and kick me in the shin. Multiple times. I tried threatening to write him up, I tried actually writing him up, and I tried ignoring the behavior. But nothing was going to stop him from swearing at me and trying to kick me.<br />
<br />
Thank goodness the special education teacher chose that moment to come back to our room. She helped get him calmed down and regulated. If she hadn't chosen that moment to come back, I don't know how far this would have escalated.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--nRAQWfqzeg/VrutrVQQZ4I/AAAAAAAAHr4/gkNB33_aQj0/s1600/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--nRAQWfqzeg/VrutrVQQZ4I/AAAAAAAAHr4/gkNB33_aQj0/s320/DIY%2Bwindow%2Bclings%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: #e06666; font-size: large;">What I learned:</span><br />
1. READ student files - If I had taken the time to read everything in this student's previous progress reports/IEPs/evaluation reports, then I would have learned some valuable information about what could set him off and cause him to become disregulated.<br />
<br />
2. TALK with your team members - Prior to working with this student, I should have taken time to talk with the special education teacher and this student's paraprofessional to learn what steps should be taken if these types of behaviors arise. Many students have a behavior plan and certain phrases or action steps need to be taken to help them regulate themselves. If all team members learn the procedures, then behavior plans can be followed consistently and students will know what to expect.<br />
<br />
3. CONSIDER becoming trained through crisis prevention intervention (CPI) - I will be taking this training in March to help me better know what procedures can be taken to help students who are showing aggression, and to help <i>prevent</i> the aggression from occurring in the first place.<br />
<br />
I hope you will read through the other <a href="http://www.allyallneed.com/2016/02/slplovehurts-by-frenzied-slps.html" target="_blank">#SLPlovehurts stories</a>. I think we can all agree that these moments are few and far between, and we still love our jobs despite the moments that hurt. If you'd like to share your own "love" story, you can link up using the link below, or share in the comments.<br />

<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Last week we made <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BBBRBVGCO-g/?taken-by=schoolhousetalk" target="_blank">snowflake snowmen</a> in my therapy room, and I LOVE how they turned out!</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5YUvfbWexQ/Vq-UC6Y_G_I/AAAAAAAAHqc/6NVCgLTR7A0/s1600/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5YUvfbWexQ/Vq-UC6Y_G_I/AAAAAAAAHqc/6NVCgLTR7A0/s320/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B1.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="text-align: center;">I was inspired by </span><a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/226446687491847681/" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">this post I saw on Pinterest</a><span style="text-align: center;">. You probably already have everything you need to make these: construction paper, scissors, a pencil, glue sticks, a white crayon, and some markers.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LJzQhELME30/Vq-UHSY_7eI/AAAAAAAAHqk/uBi6QAS4e9E/s1600/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LJzQhELME30/Vq-UHSY_7eI/AAAAAAAAHqk/uBi6QAS4e9E/s320/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B2.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
It usually took 20-30 minutes to complete these, depending on the size of the group. I had the paper folded and ready to cut ahead of time, and helped most of my students cut through the thick folded paper. We were also able to target many skills including sequencing, making requests, making descriptions, following directions, fine motor skills, and predicting how their cuts would appear once the paper was unfolded. Articulation students were able to practice their target sounds in between steps.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rm25qbNhneY/Vq-UPAta-rI/AAAAAAAAHq0/Ys6R0xX05bk/s1600/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rm25qbNhneY/Vq-UPAta-rI/AAAAAAAAHq0/Ys6R0xX05bk/s320/Snowflake%2BSnowman%2BCraft%2B4.jpg" width="236" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
I was surprised how many of my students were vocally excited about making these. There were a few I thought I'd have to convince to participate, but they were some of the most enthusiastic and most creative! Many of them had never made paper snowflakes, and they thought it was so magical unfolding the paper to reveal their snowflake. Try them today with your students!</div>

<a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> are back! This time we are sharing recipes that are simple and quick to make because we all know how hectic life can be for any SLP. If you're like me, you are drowning in referrals, evaluations, progress reports, and IEPs! I'm a big fan of popcorn supper if I have no energy to cook, but if you're looking for something with a little more sustenance, this meal is one of my absolute favorites. It only takes about 30 minutes start to finish, and it's super delicious :)<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><u>Quick Cassoulet</u></b></span></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
1 (16 oz.) kielbasa or polish sausage, halved lengthwise and cut into 1/4" slices<br />
1 can (15 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained<br />
1 can (15 oz.) kidney beans, rinsed and drained<br />
1 can (15 oz.) great northern beans, rinsed and drained<br />
1 can (14.5 oz.) diced tomatoes<br />
1 can (14.5 oz.) diced tomatoes and chilies (aka Rotel)<br />
8-10 oz. frozen corn (can also use canned corn)<br />
1/2 tsp. garlic powder<br />
1/2 tsp. onion powder<br />
salt and pepper to taste </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Saute meat in large skillet or cast iron pan to brown sides. Add remaining ingredients. Season to taste with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Heat through, about 15 minutes. Makes ~6 servings.</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Note: You can mix and match using the beans you like. We also add some diced jalapeños, cayenne pepper, or use spicy kielbasa sometimes to make it spicier. And we usually double everything except the kielbasa so we have more leftovers!</blockquote>

<i><u>a tour of my second therapy room this year</u></i></div>
<br />
While <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2015/10/2015-speech-therapy-room-tour-part-1.html" target="_blank">one of my therapy rooms</a> is full of soft muted colors, the room at my other school is bright, bright, bright! This is a classroom that I share with the special education teacher at this school. We work together with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The room can get pretty hectic with students, teachers, paraeducators, and the occasional student needing to visit the reset room, but it's fun! Take a look around:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CEgQYBOwGUg/VpbVnDPq2UI/AAAAAAAAHk0/V47Mo9eFoGY/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CEgQYBOwGUg/VpbVnDPq2UI/AAAAAAAAHk0/V47Mo9eFoGY/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the view as you walk into the room. As you can see, we are blessed to share a full-size classroom. The special education teacher works on the right side (with the blue rug and kidney table), and I work on the left side (by the windows). My roommate took the lead with the decorating, and I followed suit using the same color scheme. I love the bright green and black!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JY87DuNo9U/VpbVnNag5TI/AAAAAAAAHkw/2X10sd4-ZF8/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JY87DuNo9U/VpbVnNag5TI/AAAAAAAAHkw/2X10sd4-ZF8/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a close-up picture of my work area. I mainly work with students at the small rectangular table, but we sometimes overflow onto the round table. The game board under the window that says "We are stars!" is my reinforcement system. Students all colored their own stars, and each time they come to speech/language they get a chance to move their star one spot closer to the coveted prize space.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JEkuk25LLNA/VpbVoi--1RI/AAAAAAAAHlI/yUyfODBjmUA/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JEkuk25LLNA/VpbVoi--1RI/AAAAAAAAHlI/yUyfODBjmUA/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My desk area contains binders of printables used most often. The four file trays near the front allow me to keep materials I need for that week ready to go near the therapy table.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b1lbgbNqxL8/VpbVnHNU4AI/AAAAAAAAHlM/RrpDAhxqG3U/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b1lbgbNqxL8/VpbVnHNU4AI/AAAAAAAAHlM/RrpDAhxqG3U/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Behind the green curtain is where I keep all my therapy games, and the doors under the windows slide open for additional storage for articulation cards, etc. I made my own bulletin board between the windows by stapling bulletin board paper/border and nailing thumbtacks into the wall to store task cards and materials on binder rings. You can also see one of my all-time most often used therapy items - <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Articulation-Cans-a-DIY-youll-use-forever-850834" target="_blank">Articulation Cans</a> (LOVE them!).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C2DI9-j4Dms/VpbVoDmmf8I/AAAAAAAAHlQ/ESZy2ga5OsA/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C2DI9-j4Dms/VpbVoDmmf8I/AAAAAAAAHlQ/ESZy2ga5OsA/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BClassroom%2B4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, the view towards the back of the room. We arranged a bunch of file cabinets to have a little break area in between (you can see this area in the first picture - it's full of cushions and visuals to calm down), but that left me with a big blank file cabinet to stare at. So I taped up some fabric and created another "bulletin board". This one is magnetic! I keep a <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Inferencing-For-A-Year-1002110" target="_blank">"Mystery Object"</a> of the week up there, and sometimes attach articulation pictures on the bottom half for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Hog-Wild-Shark-Popper-Battle/dp/B00BIK3YFO/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1452726498&sr=8-12&keywords=ball+poppers" target="_blank">target practice</a>. The blue curtain in the back of the room hides a reset room, and a bathroom <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">:D</span><br />
<br />
That's it! Let me know if you have any questions or comments below. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hxd18lQ4Xhg/VpPt7GhWvzI/AAAAAAAAHjg/L5YSI0DzYQU/s320/Frenzied%2BOrganization.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>I'll admit it. Organization is not my strong suit. In my home life I live in what I'll call "organized chaos". There are usually a few piles of mail on my kitchen counter, a craft project might sit out for a few days before I put it away, and I usually don't have all my clean laundry in the closet before it's time to wash another load. But the good thing is that I typically know where things are when I need them. I've learned to accept this and love me for me.</div><div><br />
</div><div>At work, however, I operate a little differently. I'm a spontaneous SLP - meaning I typically don't plan out a day's or week's lessons in advance, but there are little tricks I use to help me stay organized and on top of things while splitting my time between two different buildings.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d9yR3HCGamY/VpV-aJm6qkI/AAAAAAAAHkQ/Nge898JA9nU/s1600/desk%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d9yR3HCGamY/VpV-aJm6qkI/AAAAAAAAHkQ/Nge898JA9nU/s320/desk%2B1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>1) Clean up after myself.</div><div>At the end of each day, take a few minutes to put away your materials from the day, and clean anything "extra" off your desk. Sometimes this means I'll still make a pile of things that need to be immediately addressed the next day, but if they're there in plain view for me, I'm more likely to remember to get them completed. And it's so nice to arrive to a clean desk in the morning.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j1PAUgmD5Vs/VpVKSGRdkyI/AAAAAAAAHkA/kMED0jcVbB4/s1600/Cart2%2Bpic.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j1PAUgmD5Vs/VpVKSGRdkyI/AAAAAAAAHkA/kMED0jcVbB4/s320/Cart2%2Bpic.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>2) Keep supplies handy.</div><div>I keep a three-shelf cart of my most-used supplies right next to my therapy table. The cart carries markers/pencils/dry erase, magnetic chips, dry-erase sleeves, game tokens/dice, and student learning goals. That way, I don't have to get up to collect these small items in the middle of a therapy session, and since they are things I use multiple times per day I don't have to spend time taking them out and putting them away again.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rlQaBNJmIns/VpUQuku8MdI/AAAAAAAAHjw/jQhOGHKX3Cc/s1600/Sticky%2BNotes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rlQaBNJmIns/VpUQuku8MdI/AAAAAAAAHjw/jQhOGHKX3Cc/s320/Sticky%2BNotes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>3) Write everything down.</div><div>My memory is terrible. Really awful. I can't rely solely on my Google calendar to keep every due date and meeting and task in mind. I need to see things written down in front of me to remember. My Post-It Note lists were getting out of control, so I created a <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2015/09/sticky-note-command-center-free-download.html" target="_blank">Sticky Note Command Center</a> that is on top of my desk at both of my schools. It is a life saver to help me prioritize my to-do list and remember the important things each day/week. <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Sticky-Note-Command-Center-2084652" target="_blank">Download yours for free here</a>.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I'm so excited to read through the organizational tips from the other <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank">Frenzied SLPs</a>! We'd love it if you'd share your tips in the comments, or add a blog post to the linky below. <i><u>kick off 2016 with The Frenzied SLPs' take on resolutions</u></i></div>
<br />
Happy New Year! <a href="http://www.allyallneed.com/2016/01/the-frenzied-slps-in-2016-ill-try.html" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> are back and we are sharing all the things we'd like to work on improving in 2016. It seems I tend to make the same resolutions each year: be more punctual, finish projects, stop procrastinating, etc. We often make resolutions so strict and extreme that they are easily abandoned within a few weeks of starting. The Frenzied SLPs are accepting that fact, so we are kicking off 2016 with some things we'd like to <i>try</i> in 2016.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Lu_i_omzSs/VorghTJ8G3I/AAAAAAAAHjA/J0NYaL_nB1k/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Lu_i_omzSs/VorghTJ8G3I/AAAAAAAAHjA/J0NYaL_nB1k/s320/Slide1.png" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
1. Blog more regularly<br />
In 2015 I averaged 3.5 blog posts per month. I just wasn't always motivated to write, and I know if I write just to publish something, it won't be the quality I strive for. But I miss creating content for this blog and sharing activities that have been successful in the therapy room. There are 145 unfinished posts in draft form on this blog. 145! So I'm going to create a calendar to try to schedule blog posts in advance and increase the content seen here. <i>In 2016 I will try to post at least four blog posts per month that are not related to Teachers Pay Teachers.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_DakVMjsLec/Vorgn_LUQfI/AAAAAAAAHjI/vdb-o5TEVBY/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_DakVMjsLec/Vorgn_LUQfI/AAAAAAAAHjI/vdb-o5TEVBY/s320/Slide2.png" width="213" /></a></div>
<i><br />
</i> 2. Prep at night to have a smooth morning<br />
I am NOT a morning person. At all. Every night I set my alarm and swear to myself I will not hit snooze. Every morning I curse myself for hitting snooze and having to rush around like a crazy person to get out the door on time. One thing I'd like to improve is prepping lunches and coffee, and selecting an outfit each evening to help me have a smoother morning. If I can just grab my lunch out of the fridge instead of having to take 10 minutes to put it together, that will save me valuable time. If I can just fill the travel mugs with delicious coffee without needing to wash them first, that will make me a happier person. If I can just get dressed without staring at my closet for 15 minutes, I'll leave the house with a smile on. <i>In 2016 I will try to prep lunches, coffee, and choose an outfit for the next day before I go to bed.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />

<i><u>you'll want to add these goodies to your holiday treat platter</u></i></div>
<br />
Something that is always right at the top of my to-do list each Thanksgiving/Christmas season is baking! There are so many recipes that are "must-bakes" each holiday season, and often we only enjoy them this one time throughout the year. My must-bake cookies include krumkake, cereal date balls, and chocolate mint puddles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gUJ_sCLsFEk/VngWX7Nak5I/AAAAAAAAHhg/DAPfbpQc1rI/s1600/Virtual%2BCookie%2BExchange.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gUJ_sCLsFEk/VngWX7Nak5I/AAAAAAAAHhg/DAPfbpQc1rI/s320/Virtual%2BCookie%2BExchange.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd love to share a recipe with you today as part of the virtual cookie exchange hosted by Annie at <a href="http://doylespeechworks.blogspot.com/2015/12/christmas-cookie-exchange-linky-style.html" target="_blank">Doyle Speech Works</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TYEDgZ8zwrs/Vni_B7Dp-gI/AAAAAAAAHiA/YpiEK_-nmB0/s1600/cookies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TYEDgZ8zwrs/Vni_B7Dp-gI/AAAAAAAAHiA/YpiEK_-nmB0/s1600/cookies.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
These are a really easy cookie to whip together, and the dough handles beautifully. I suggest you keep the dough in the fridge in between pans. That helps the cookies hold their shape better.<br />

Tip: Bake them small so there is a pretty even cookie-to-mint ratio, and so you can enjoy more than one :) Enjoy! <span style="color: black;">It's the most wonderful time of the year! Here in North Dakota we have a little dusting of snow on the ground, and it's really starting to feel festive around here. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> are back to get you in the holiday spirit with a link-up of Holiday Goodies for you <span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">:D</span><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_XZ3k5olkXk/VlCzru7nZ-I/AAAAAAAAHaU/J-U4C5VWGG0/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BGobble%2BUp%2BHoliday%2BGoodies%2BSquare%2B%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_XZ3k5olkXk/VlCzru7nZ-I/AAAAAAAAHaU/J-U4C5VWGG0/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BGobble%2BUp%2BHoliday%2BGoodies%2BSquare%2B%25281%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<span style="color: black;">I can NOT wait for Thanksgiving next week - extra time with family, a couple days off of work to relax, and don't forget the yum-o food! I'd like to share a recipe with you that my family traditionally only makes for the holidays. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><o:p><br />
</o:p></span> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KswCgIVkbuY/VlC8GDL3ZhI/AAAAAAAAHak/MaiUnJBFcgs/s1600/krumkake.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KswCgIVkbuY/VlC8GDL3ZhI/AAAAAAAAHak/MaiUnJBFcgs/s320/krumkake.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<span style="color: black;"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krumkake" target="_blank">Krumkake is a Scandinavian dessert</a> that my family makes every single Christmas. You do need a special iron to cook these on, similar to a waffle iron. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004RFPK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=22PC8C6U5PA53&coliid=IGNUA8BVDUBNH" target="_blank">This is the type of iron I use</a> (not an affiliate link). After baking the batter in the iron, you roll the delicate disc into a cone shape and let it cool. Then it becomes a delicious, sweet, crispy treat. In my family, we eat these plain, although I've seen pictures of them dusted with powdered sugar or filled with whipped cream.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="color: black;"><o:p>What else does the holiday season mean to me? Lots of homemade crafts and gifts! A couple years ago I made all my nieces and nephews (that's 13 total!) homemade bookmarks for Christmas gifts.</o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ohcrafts.net/kids-page-corner-bookmark-for-kids.php?p=10" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WBIN316tmmA/VlCUztjkCfI/AAAAAAAAHZ0/2G_fnehdUEM/s200/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-11-21%2Bat%2B9.58.38%2BAM.png" width="200" /></a> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52_R8UmJsXQ/VlCVRRSTZ0I/AAAAAAAAHZ4/1iDFZf8jsEE/s1600/corner%2Bbookmark%2Bcraft.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52_R8UmJsXQ/VlCVRRSTZ0I/AAAAAAAAHZ4/1iDFZf8jsEE/s200/corner%2Bbookmark%2Bcraft.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><span style="color: black;"><o:p> (<a href="http://www.ohcrafts.net/kids-page-corner-bookmark-for-kids.php?p=10" target="_blank">source</a>)</o:p></span><br />
<o:p><br />
</o:p> <o:p>I made monster ones for the boys, and scalloped edges for the girls <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/226446687488078919/" style="color: black;" target="_blank">using this pattern</a>. Since then I've made more for myself and have also used them for Secret Santa at work. Quick, easy to personalize, and they go along with my love of reading. They would also be an excellent therapy activity/gift for your students. Win-win-win-win :)</o:p><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MK_vplFfNgI/VlDFVvGCuLI/AAAAAAAAHa8/-yNkm4-_uzM/s1600/thankfulness%2Bwreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MK_vplFfNgI/VlDFVvGCuLI/AAAAAAAAHa8/-yNkm4-_uzM/s320/thankfulness%2Bwreath.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Need a Thanksgiving-themed craft for your students or family celebration? This Thankfulness Wreath was so heartwarming to make last year at school. I simply cut out a basic leaf shape in a variety of fall colors, students wrote the things they are thankful for in metallic markers, then we pinned them to a styrofoam wreath form and hung it outside my therapy room. I can't wait to make another one with my students this week!<br />
<br />
Finally, don't forget about holiday-themed fun in your therapy room. The following activities can be found in my shop:<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">Halloween is over, and now it's time for my absolute most favorite holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas! It's just an awesome time to pause and count your blessings. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs/?fref=ts" target="_blank">The Frenzied SLPs</a> are doing just that, and this week we are passing our gratitude along to our wonderful readers:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">T</span>: Teachers Pay Teachers and Technology</div><div style="text-align: center;">Starting this blog 3 years ago and creating activities for Teachers Pay Teachers has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Schoolhouse Talk gives me an opportunity to be creative and motivates me to keep my therapy interesting and fun. I have virtually “met” so many new and talented friends through the blogging world as well as on social media. If you’re not on <a href="https://instagram.com/schoolhousetalk/" target="_blank">Instagram</a>, I highly suggest you join. Every single day I am inspired by the things my fellow SLPs all over the world are creating and sharing in that virtual community. Technology is amazing!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">H</span>: Housing and Health</div><div style="text-align: center;">These are things that are so easy to take for granted. My husband and I are so fortunate to be able to afford rent on a spacious townhome which is in a super convenient location in our city. And we have no health issues limiting our daily activities. Completely blessed.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">A</span>: All my students</div><div style="text-align: center;">This year I am grateful to be working with the grade levels I prefer. I get to have fun and make a difference in the lives of PreK – 5th grade students every time I go to work. They keep me creative, they make me laugh, they are hands down the best part of my job.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t4IcCotqSck/VkAbDRTN9-I/AAAAAAAAHYk/GoKjCjMz9G4/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-11-08%2Bat%2B10.02.16%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t4IcCotqSck/VkAbDRTN9-I/AAAAAAAAHYk/GoKjCjMz9G4/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-11-08%2Bat%2B10.02.16%2BPM.png" width="318" /></a></div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">N</span>: New pets</div><div style="text-align: center;">In September my husband and I adopted two kittens and they have been so nice to have around! I won’t go so far as to call them my “fur babies”, but Callie and Lucy have sure been fun and I love them ☺</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">K</span>: Knowing I make a difference</div><div style="text-align: center;">Every time I go to work, I have the privilege of doing a job where I make a difference in the lives of my students. Talk about a blessing! As SLPs, we get to help students learn to communicate and interact with the world around them. It’s such an important job and I am so proud every time I get to tell someone I’m an SLP.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20A52LoMxWk/VkAbI201OsI/AAAAAAAAHYs/Kya-4ywTyWs/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-11-08%2Bat%2B10.02.46%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20A52LoMxWk/VkAbI201OsI/AAAAAAAAHYs/Kya-4ywTyWs/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-11-08%2Bat%2B10.02.46%2BPM.png" width="317" /></a></div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange; font-size: x-large;">F</span>: Family and Friends</div><div style="text-align: center;">I don’t want to brag here, but I really do have the best husband. </div>The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs?fref=ts" style="color: #1155cc;" target="_blank">Frenzied SLPs</a> are back! This time we are sharing Halloween Tricks and Tips for Language :) Your therapy room will be loaded with fun, just in time for Halloween on Saturday! I started using Halloween activities in my room last week, and here's what has been successful.<br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GEGqyINsNdc/VinAkNfA3vI/AAAAAAAAHVc/jV0NW-ZH114/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GEGqyINsNdc/VinAkNfA3vI/AAAAAAAAHVc/jV0NW-ZH114/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="color: lime;">Green Ooze!</span> This was a super fun project that I was able to complete with a couple students last week, and will use with the rest of my older students this week. It's a great activity for following directions, sequencing, and making descriptions about the texture, smell, feel, and behavior of the ooze. If you'd like to make your own, <a href="http://bit.ly/1i854ix" target="_blank">here's an instruction sheet</a> with visuals that I put together. This was so. much. FUN!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6xVedXWcKgk/Vim1TkymALI/AAAAAAAAHVE/I00nzUpRzdU/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6xVedXWcKgk/Vim1TkymALI/AAAAAAAAHVE/I00nzUpRzdU/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
For the past couple years I've made a <span style="color: lime;">masking tape spider web</span> on the floor during the week of Halloween. This is a reinforcement game students can play while they practice any therapy goal. I added point pumpkins and ghosts throughout the web and had students toss glow-in-the-dark spiders. If the spiders hit or land on any pumpkin or the ghost, students get that many points. So easy and simple, but the kiddos LOVE it.<br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0SMaP321EXQ/VinAYypOHhI/AAAAAAAAHVU/GaDgCNg53DY/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0SMaP321EXQ/VinAYypOHhI/AAAAAAAAHVU/GaDgCNg53DY/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B8.jpg" width="245" /></a></div><br />
Another perfect activity for this time of year is <span style="color: lime;">Ned's Head</span>! My students can't get enough of this gross game and all the disgusting items packed inside Ned's noggin. I love to use this game to talk about making thorough descriptions of objects. We talk about the features of all the items inside - size, shape, soft/hard, does it have legs, will it be flat or bumpy, etc. We also look at the cards first and predict how those items will feel so they can be more successful at picking out their object.<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vjEpQ3pan7M/VinBb1Ol98I/AAAAAAAAHV0/eLZVmAxowkA/s1600/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br class="" /><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vjEpQ3pan7M/VinBb1Ol98I/AAAAAAAAHV0/eLZVmAxowkA/s320/Frenzied%2BSLPs%2BHalloween%2BLanguage%2BActivities%2B11.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<span style="color: lime;"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/SLAP-Halloween-Speech-Language-Activity-Pack-2136182" target="_blank"><span style="color: lime;">S.L.A.P. for Halloween</span></a>:</span> I created this packet so I could use it with every language goal on my caseload - following directions, inferences, vocabulary, synonyms/antonyms/multiple meaning words, categories, plural nouns, past-tense verbs, story sequencing, compare/contrast, barrier game - it's loaded! Bonus - it's almost completely black and white printing!<br />
<br />

<span style="color: lime;"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/These-Sentences-are-Scary-semantic-absurdities-game-1494077" target="_blank"><span style="color: lime;">These Sentences are Scaaary</span></a>:</span> This is a semantic absurdities packet, and my students have loooved it this year! Each student gets a sorting mat, then they draw a card and correct the semantic error in the sentence. If they get it correct, they can add the card to their mat. First student to fill up their entire mat is the winner!<br />

<span style="color: lime;"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spooky-Spiders-Halloween-themed-word-lists-sorted-by-phonemes-948544" target="_blank"><span style="color: lime;">Spooky Spiders Halloween Words</span></a>:</span> Need some seasonal vocabulary ideas? This packet has lots of great new Halloween words to learn, and they are sorted by phoneme in case you have some articulation students in your groups. I've been helping students look up the definition of their card, then they have to teach the rest of the group what their word means. Sometimes we draw definitions of our words on the back of the cards. You can also put the cards in a pile and play an open-ended game.<br />

<i><u>come see how I set up one of two therapy rooms I share this year</u></i></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The new school year brought a lot of changes to my assignment this year. Instead of working full-time in one building, my assignment is now split between two buildings within my district. I spend 40% of my time (2 days per week) at the same school I was at last year, but I moved from 3rd-8th grades down to Preschool and Kindergarten. I had to change rooms, and this meant going from a <a href="http://www.speechroomstyle.com/space-speech/" target="_blank">full-size classroom all by myself</a>, to sharing a room with the occupational therapist. Come see how it's turned out!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C1AjHxdf68k/VihCIQsfgxI/AAAAAAAAHTc/ZnJRfNFmUvg/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C1AjHxdf68k/VihCIQsfgxI/AAAAAAAAHTc/ZnJRfNFmUvg/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the view when you walk into the room. The OT has all her stuff on the other half. (The bookcase with the pinwheels is the divider.) I chose teal, apple green, and pink as the main colors, with snippets of orange throughout.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ComvMxXxNVo/VihCJjWeuiI/AAAAAAAAHTw/M_MErp7dnyk/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ComvMxXxNVo/VihCJjWeuiI/AAAAAAAAHTw/M_MErp7dnyk/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
To the left of the doorway there is a narrow storage area. Two 2-door cupboards, a bookshelf, and this shelf set with paper cubbies. I keep handouts and homework pages for each speech sound and many other therapy targets stored there. It makes grabbing practice sheets quick and easy for this last-minute-planner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cY228kXzHl0/VihCKHCPKRI/AAAAAAAAHT4/qASEr5jSkEw/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cY228kXzHl0/VihCKHCPKRI/AAAAAAAAHT4/qASEr5jSkEw/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Continuing around the room, there is a bookshelf where I keep therapy books. I also have a small whiteboard in this corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ltbwmlzs8K4/VihCKGc9JCI/AAAAAAAAHT8/Z6kMcpgaR44/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ltbwmlzs8K4/VihCKGc9JCI/AAAAAAAAHT8/Z6kMcpgaR44/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
In the center of the room is an interactive white board. I added some positive quotes around it to try and cover up the green chalkboard peeking out. Did it work?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--HuwQQetQ-w/VihCKur6VpI/AAAAAAAAHUE/h69ZVqKrElo/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--HuwQQetQ-w/VihCKur6VpI/AAAAAAAAHUE/h69ZVqKrElo/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My one bulletin board is brightly decorated, but holds minimal items at the present time (including FREE <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Sound-Banners-FREE-2025031" target="_blank">Speech Sound Banners</a>!). I was planning on hanging a bunch of my materials that are on rings, but they were too heavy and I couldn't get them to stay hanging on the bulletin board! Any ideas? Underneath the bulletin board I have milk crates holding all my picture books, pockets with artic cards, and my precious laminator.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ibkrXr-wT1A/VihCLeqIPrI/AAAAAAAAHUU/_o7UwqZ1hU4/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ibkrXr-wT1A/VihCLeqIPrI/AAAAAAAAHUU/_o7UwqZ1hU4/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
On the other side of the room are file cabinets full of student files, testing materials, and themed/seasonal therapy materials. Three bookcases full of goodies also help form the divider between my half of the room and the OT's side. You can see her therapy balls peeking out behind the tallest bookshelf. I sewed a curtain for the shelf that held the games, but I think I need to add a second curtain to cover the tallest bookshelf too. All those fun toys are right at eye level for my 3-year-olds! By the way, I bought a clearance set of sheets from Target and used that for the curtain material. Yards and yards of material for $8!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iai24mDRlfw/VihCL-JhoNI/AAAAAAAAHUY/8QAs0izQke4/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iai24mDRlfw/VihCL-JhoNI/AAAAAAAAHUY/8QAs0izQke4/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I. love. having. windows! The sun shines in during the morning and it's so cozy. The windows look out onto a small courtyard that is between two wings of the building. It's been nice to see the leaves changing! A simple fabric garland and leftover wedding lanterns decorate the windows. I also crafted up some pinwheels and a banner for my desk. Plants are also something I love having in my therapy room. They just seem to make things a little more homey.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wjyq1Nal6bg/VihCMNwAJyI/AAAAAAAAHUc/NlpWT48EaVk/s1600/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wjyq1Nal6bg/VihCMNwAJyI/AAAAAAAAHUc/NlpWT48EaVk/s320/Schoolhouse%2BTalk%2BSpeech%2BRoom%2BDecor%2B8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Desk organization: student working folders on the left, office supplies in front, <a href="http://slp123.blogspot.com/2015/09/sticky-note-command-center-free-download.html" target="_blank">sticky note command center</a> next to my chair. Don't forget family photos on your desk!<br />

</div>Hi! Twice each month, The Frenzied SLPs collaborate to bring you oodles of ideas and suggestions related to a specific speech pathology topic. This time, I'm so thrilled to be joining The Frenzied SLPs with ideas for Fall-themed articulation practice!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/thefrenziedSLPs?fref=ts" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yra8MiCF3WA/VhbjcherNNI/AAAAAAAAHQ8/ATddOremyqU/s320/Fall%2BArtic%2BFrenzied%2BSLPs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I share my time between two different buildings, so I prefer to use activities that involve minimal prep. And with articulation students, I want to make the most of our time together and pack in tons of practice. Let me show you some things we've done this season...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LpW0LxuyYrY/VhsTZP_3dQI/AAAAAAAAHRU/AKlunFF1umM/s1600/Fall%2BArtic%2BIdeas%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LpW0LxuyYrY/VhsTZP_3dQI/AAAAAAAAHRU/AKlunFF1umM/s320/Fall%2BArtic%2BIdeas%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
- Die Cuts: I love using the school's die cut machine for seasonal activities. This year I cut out leaf shapes in various colors and had students write fall-themed articulation words on the leaves. They could take these home for extra practice.<br />
<br />
- Tech Search: Look through a book or do a "fall"/"autumn" Google image search. How many Autumn-related words can you find that contain your target phonemes?<br />
<br />
- Leaf Rubbings: Bring the outdoors in with leaf rubbings! You can write artic words on the leaf veins and students can have <i>art</i> and <i>artic</i> practice all in one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DqR59QozFfY/VhsTfb7c-kI/AAAAAAAAHRc/Vv8MthkQHwA/s1600/Fall%2BArtic%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DqR59QozFfY/VhsTfb7c-kI/AAAAAAAAHRc/Vv8MthkQHwA/s320/Fall%2BArtic%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
- Hide and Seek: I cut out pumpkin shapes (using that handy die-cut machine again!) and wrote fall-themed articulation words on each side, then hid them around the room. For groups, each student could only collect the pumpkins that had his/her target sound.<br />
<br />
- Go for a Walk: Enjoy the last of our beautiful warm weather before winter comes. Look for things around you which contain target speech sounds.<br />
<br />
- Don't Spill the Beans: I don't know about you, but in my therapy room this is one of the most requested games of all time. At Easter <a href="https://instagram.com/p/0vWEAMiO81/?taken-by=schoolhousetalk" target="_blank">we used real jelly beans</a> to play the game; try using candy corn or autumn-colored M&Ms this month. Students have to practice their sounds before each turn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gxxJIWAtzI4/VhsTlrqbXwI/AAAAAAAAHRk/IpbBOlDBMjg/s1600/Fall%2BArtic%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gxxJIWAtzI4/VhsTlrqbXwI/AAAAAAAAHRk/IpbBOlDBMjg/s320/Fall%2BArtic%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
- Craftivity: Paper plate crafts are always a favorite of mine (see <a href="https://instagram.com/p/lIlH2qCO9J/" target="_blank">here</a>, and <a href="https://instagram.com/p/ldFCkRiO_Y/" target="_blank">here</a>, and <a href="https://instagram.com/p/nMBp-tiOw0/" target="_blank">here</a>!). This year we made fall wreaths. Sometimes students wrote their target words on the leaves, and others we just left plain and practiced our targets while we crafted.<br />
<br />
- Carryover: For students who are moving towards generalization of their speech sounds, try playing the <a href="http://www.ultimatecampresource.com/site/camp-activity/i-m-going-on-a-picnic.html" target="_blank">I'm Going on a Picnic game</a>, but change it to "I'm Going on a Hayride" or "I'm Going to the Pumpkin Patch".<br />
<br />

<i><u>help students understand their speech/language therapy goals and progress</u></i></div>
<br />
Does your district require you to post student learning goals? Where I work, we follow the Marzano teacher evaluation model, which does require us to post learning goals. With special education, it's a little more tricky to post goals since everything is so individualized. And you know with speech/language students that we have dozens of different therapy goals that we work with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XbZ4L2XIoj0/VgwFmND4SII/AAAAAAAAHQQ/T-CI4wsQ0Bw/s1600/2a%2Blearning%2Btargets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XbZ4L2XIoj0/VgwFmND4SII/AAAAAAAAHQQ/T-CI4wsQ0Bw/s320/2a%2Blearning%2Btargets.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have a set of learning targets that I have been using, but needed something portable that I could take with me if I was working in classrooms or hallways, and would also allow me to quickly let students know what they are working on. My district has also talked extensively about using scales with students to give them some insight into how they are doing. Thus, this little flip book was born:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4lEp8KibldE/VgwFYj4e4KI/AAAAAAAAHQI/oebPD_A8G6k/s1600/3%2Blearning%2Btargets.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4lEp8KibldE/VgwFYj4e4KI/AAAAAAAAHQI/oebPD_A8G6k/s320/3%2Blearning%2Btargets.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Features:<br />
- 88 different learning targets with "I can..." statements<br />
- student rating scales on each card to discuss progress<br />
- blank cards for you to write your own student goals<br />
- full-page blank targets<br />
- tabs to make it easy to flip to the content area you are working on<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B37ysSuiChk/VgwFsY08egI/AAAAAAAAHQY/PWQuQeVyHvA/s1600/4%2Blearning%2Btargets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B37ysSuiChk/VgwFsY08egI/AAAAAAAAHQY/PWQuQeVyHvA/s320/4%2Blearning%2Btargets.jpg" width="236" /></a></div>
<br />
You can <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-and-Language-Learning-Targets-I-Can-Statements-2122524" target="_blank">pick up a copy for your own therapy room here</a>. I hope they are useful for you and your students and help you score points during those teacher observations/evaluations!<br />

<i><u>use this free download to help keep your to-do lists organized</u></i></div>
<br />
Hello friends! By now I'm sure you are all getting into the swing of the new school year, but if you're anything like me you have a million things on your list of things to get done, and random sticky notes posted everywhere! I had so many notes and reminders jotted down that I was actually forgetting things, so I decided to do something about it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qDNc9nYMMQc/VfH1UOjDaqI/AAAAAAAAHPA/12jEz8aOlTs/s1600/Sticky%2BNote%2BCommand%2BCenter%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qDNc9nYMMQc/VfH1UOjDaqI/AAAAAAAAHPA/12jEz8aOlTs/s320/Sticky%2BNote%2BCommand%2BCenter%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I created a sticky note command center for my desk! Now all my notes are in one spot for each building I work in and hopefully I won't be forgetting any more important things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PZ0yjbTVBS8/VfH1elLQ7YI/AAAAAAAAHPI/ppPtXsyiKSU/s1600/Post%2BIt%2BCover%2BPage.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PZ0yjbTVBS8/VfH1elLQ7YI/AAAAAAAAHPI/ppPtXsyiKSU/s320/Post%2BIt%2BCover%2BPage.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You can <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Sticky-Note-Command-Center-2084652" target="_blank">download your own sticky note command center here</a>. The pages are editable so you can label the boxes to suit your own needs. There are two colorful versions, a grayscale version, and a blank version so you can add your own background to match your room decor. Enjoy!<br />
<br />
(Please leave feedback if you download - it helps me know what to keep or change about the materials I create. Thanks!)Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12701596998407286546noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1585143104042028745.post-67838140458904494992015-09-04T22:17:00.002-05:002015-09-04T22:17:35.032-05:00Using Google Forms to Get Started with Scheduling Therapy<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><u>use google forms to get started with the scheduling process</u></i></div>
<br />
When trying to attack the daunting task of scheduling therapy in the past, I have handed out <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Therapy-Schedule-Notices-for-Teachers-589835" target="_blank">scheduling forms</a> for teachers to attach their schedule or to write down the times that will absolutely NOT work for me to meet with students from their classroom. This has worked fine, but still resulted in me shuffling through a dozen different teacher responses to figure out how to fit my students into the times available. And you know there are never enough times available.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n6RYo9zOqdc/VepbiCIeSuI/AAAAAAAAHOY/2HJTxGqq6lM/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BScheduling%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2BPinnable.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n6RYo9zOqdc/VepbiCIeSuI/AAAAAAAAHOY/2HJTxGqq6lM/s320/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BScheduling%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2BPinnable.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This year I decided to approach this in a different way at one of my buildings. I created a Google Form for teachers to fill out in which they can select all the times that WILL and WILL NOT work for me to meet with their students. Here's how:<br />
<br />
Step 1: Sign into your Google account and go to Google Drive.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuqUO0jqQoo/VeozvcJ73GI/AAAAAAAAHM0/LU6j1eBBr9Q/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuqUO0jqQoo/VeozvcJ73GI/AAAAAAAAHM0/LU6j1eBBr9Q/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 2: On the left-hand side of the screen, click "new", then "more", then "Google Forms".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3RXLx9VzAfM/VeozvTFn8VI/AAAAAAAAHM4/eyraIKIcY8w/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3RXLx9VzAfM/VeozvTFn8VI/AAAAAAAAHM4/eyraIKIcY8w/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 3: Make sure to name your Form at the top, and then you can start adding questions. The "Question Title" is where you type what you want your question to say. This is what will show up on the response spreadsheet (more on that later). I made my first question "Name" so that I would be able to see who each response belonged to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LfTmRnyj_pg/VeozvgcOJzI/AAAAAAAAHNA/jUnj8bIlQ5k/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="249" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LfTmRnyj_pg/VeozvgcOJzI/AAAAAAAAHNA/jUnj8bIlQ5k/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yw8FGyz6dbg/Veozvx9pOyI/AAAAAAAAHNE/5mzBlDKr9FA/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yw8FGyz6dbg/Veozvx9pOyI/AAAAAAAAHNE/5mzBlDKr9FA/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 4: Select the Question Type. Google Forms has a lot of different question types, but for this scheduling form's purpose I chose "Checkboxes" because I wanted teachers to be able to select more than one answer. You can also choose whether or not you want your questions to be required. I used the "Help Text" to provide further instructions ("Please select all times that would work for students to go to therapy.")<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4I_jxzKZmAY/VeozwZYcaJI/AAAAAAAAHN8/4HRXacBlpFg/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4I_jxzKZmAY/VeozwZYcaJI/AAAAAAAAHN8/4HRXacBlpFg/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 5: To add another question, click "Add item". You will go through the same steps as you did to create previous questions. In this case, I created another question that allows teachers to select all times that do NOT work on a specific day of the week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yoBrk8A_XP4/Veozv_ve_VI/AAAAAAAAHNI/dasJ2_5qqcE/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yoBrk8A_XP4/Veozv_ve_VI/AAAAAAAAHNI/dasJ2_5qqcE/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B5.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UdXetIQz-Qo/VeozwQJgOYI/AAAAAAAAHNQ/qBEAJY4BEQc/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UdXetIQz-Qo/VeozwQJgOYI/AAAAAAAAHNQ/qBEAJY4BEQc/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B7.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 6: This is optional, but at the bottom of my form I added an additional question using the "Paragraph text" option. This is a space where teachers can type in any other information that might be helpful for me to know.<br />

<br />
Step 7: When you've added all the questions you need, you can change the look of the form by clicking "Change theme".<br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_lY-2hgZcUo/Veozw6S5OlI/AAAAAAAAHNk/2v-pTLVGFXQ/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_lY-2hgZcUo/Veozw6S5OlI/AAAAAAAAHNk/2v-pTLVGFXQ/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B9.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 8: When you are ready to send your beautiful form out to all your teachers, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click "Send form". A pop-up box will allow you to copy a link to the form or type in email addresses to send invitations to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7SZ4iNJBAdY/VepD3EeZR4I/AAAAAAAAHOI/Gl59wtXwyhc/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7SZ4iNJBAdY/VepD3EeZR4I/AAAAAAAAHOI/Gl59wtXwyhc/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B11.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Once people respond to your survey, their answers are automatically compiled into a handy spreadsheet for you to see their responses all in the same place! Now you will be able to have just one form to refer to when attempting to schedule students. (<i>cue heavenly music</i>)<br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gbavjZfcJqo/VeozvbtPNsI/AAAAAAAAHMw/6hSJRfRgBZU/s1600/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gbavjZfcJqo/VeozvbtPNsI/AAAAAAAAHMw/6hSJRfRgBZU/s400/Google%2BForms%2Bfor%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2Bby%2BSchoolhouse%2BTalk%2B10.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, you're still on your own to put it all into an actual therapy schedule...but at least this is a great starting point! I liked that I wasn't shuffling through a stack of notes and teacher schedules to figure out where to put students on my schedule. So will you try this out? Let me know how it works for you!<br />

P.S. I also see this being a great tool for creating progress monitoring "quizzes" for students working on vocabulary skills!Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12701596998407286546noreply@blogger.com8
